The history here has been one of hindering Petra and company for years. While some still don't get it, helping them, like this facade redo using grants and the like, helps all of Springfield far more than it helps the owners of the building. If all the buildings looked good, would it not be more likely to get more interest in coming to Main St? And doesn't it make you, a resident of Springfield, feel better too? Then the fact that a historic commercial structure is at least given some care to help insure it sticks around a bit longer. Isn't that worth more than any gain the owners get?

Help, not hinder.

I totally agree that the facelift has potential for positive effects that reach far beyond a benefit for Petra. I was one of the volunteers that helped paint the building on Saturday, and I loved being introduced to Springfield. The sense of community you have fostered is evident and contagious! (To the point that I brought my wife and kids back on Sunday to explore the neighborhood, and again on Monday for lunch.) If a couple hours of volunteering and interacting with Springfield residents can shatter "the stereotypes" image what a consistently face lifted Main St. could do to attract new businesses, patrons, and residents! Thanks for the hospitality. We look forward to continuing to learn and become more involved with the community.

"Help, not hinder" Please remeber that when speaking to other people Joe. Saying some people "don't get it" is offensive and not helpful.THis is good for Springfield, no doubt. As I said twice in my statement, I am GLAD it was done.I supported it when asked to.
It does not mean I have to like the way it was done.

It was not easy to get Petra to agree to the facelift, the gentleman at ONH that put the project together did ALOT of work to pull this together and the intentions were to brighten up Main Street and keep the building from contiuing to deteriorate. As a Springfield resident for many years I know the community wants Petra more involved, or at least sell at reasonable prices to stimulate commercial development, but if they won't then I think projects like this are "taking the power back." If they won't be responsible for their buildings and the community can help preserve the buildings and make them look more desirable then maybe the buildings will finally get sold or put to better use.

The building looks great - thank you to all the volunteers!! Can't wait to see the murals!

The ONH gentleman did work hard and well and sought an administrative COA before starting, which is impressive. It shows respect for the system.
And yard chick I agree with you

This project is great, done with hard work of all involved and regardless of whether the owner deserved it or not. The organizers recognized that Springfield and all of us are worth it. I can't wait to see what the artist does. Still hoping he brings in that Porsche car thing somehow.

Meanwhile, help, not hinder.

Are the murals going to be done the same way they were in the photos? Those are really top shelf murals. Very nicely done.

The argument can be made that Petra didn't deserve it, but Springfield did. So I'm glad. It looks so much better.
