Wins and Fails: Alley lights

Postby movedsouth » Tue Oct 16, 2012 5:55 pm

There are two alleys connecting 9th Street and 10th Street between Main and Hubbard. One behind KFC/Yangs ("west alley") and the other one east of Redell Street ("east alley").

A few months ago, I called in two burned out light in the "west alley". The lights were fixed pretty much next day. Great win! Last week, I did the same for a light in the "east alley", and I think the light was removed, not fixed. (I have to double check if the light is gone during daytime)

What is the current policy on having street lights fixed in alleys?

If an alley light burns out and needs to be replaced, JEA will replace the light.

If the light has already been removed (JEA was previously removing lights from the alley ways, but stopped because of neighborhood pressure) they will not replace it.

That's the set policy.

You can contact Joann Tredennick, of Spar's Alley Task Force, who was integral in negotiating the preservation of alley lights, for more insight. Her email is on www.sparcouncil.org
