PSOS Now owns 8 Dancy Bungalows

Postby iloveionia » Mon Jul 30, 2012 2:52 pm

Preservation SOS just finished its mothballing effort of a bungalow at Dancy Terrace. With the final inspection scheduled this week, it is exciting that our love for Dancy Terrace did get noticed.

Today, Preservation SOS took ownership of 8 of the 24 Dancy Terrace bungalows. Expect rapid changes and pleas for help to make this happen! Thanks to all those before us who managed to keep this unique cottage court alive for so long. The complete preservation of all 24 bungalows has been amazing and a symbol for Springfield's resilience and strong roots in preservation.

This year, we have not only completed one large mothball project at Walnut Court, but also stated 4 more (Walnut Court #2, Clark Street, 2nd Street,) participated in a "Make it Happen" project with The Well and preserved Kenneth's house from the imminent threat of demolition. Thanks again for all your help! And lets continue to make it happen!

A great big hoo rah!

This is good. They have switched owners so may times though I dont know if this will make a difference. What will be done with them?

We are your neighbors. So it IS good.
Mothball COAs have been submitted.
But 4 of the bungalows are a few steps away from getting a Certificate of Occupancy. A lot of work was done back in the day.
I see one bungalow at a time finished and occupied.
Moving towards an "Adopt a Bungalow" plan.
We need all the continued support we can get.
One porch light at a time. . . . .

I noticed on Saturday that one of them got a bright little paint job! Is that on the horizon for the rest?

yes. the one that was painted isn't part of the 8, but it was painted by us (Preservation SOS) with support from the owner. Still trying to reach the rest of the owners and get them on board. But the one we worked at this weekend is essentially the model for the mothballing process, and helped get this one owner on board who gave us the 8.

As Nicole said, the short term plan is mothballing, but we expect to make them habitable as soon as possible. Nothing will preserve these better then someone living in them. Initially we will be looking for some brave, well vetted, tenants to act as a caretaker while the rest is still empty. Our hope is that as things move along, the other owners will join us in fixing up their bungalows, sell to someone who is willing to, or donate them to us like the 8 we got now.
